06- Day TOT on Community Based Essential Newborn Care
Neonatal mortality contributes to two-thirds of all deaths under the age of five years. It has been demonstrated by Hala study that at least 20% reduction in mortality can be brought about by an essential package of home based newborn care. This package can be implemented by lady health workers, community midwives and any other cadre of community workers. National Program in collaboration with UNICEF has designed a competency based course to refresh and enhance the knowledge and skills and to meet varying needs of all the cadres, especially Community Midwives regarding new born care, who have to work closely with lady health workers as NP for FP and PHC will be providing monitoring and supervision through the cadre of Lady Health Supervisors.
